In Mai 2000, 25 representatives of Southeast European non-governmental organizations met in Romania to discuss the impact of Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe has on the region's civil society and the potential for cross-border activities. This four-day meeting was organized by the Foundation for Democratic Change (Bucharest) and the Berghof Research Centre for Constructive Conflict Management (Berlin) and took place in the picturesque mountains of Sinaia (Carpathian Mountains). During several working sessions held in a creative atmosphere the participants developed a list of recommendations concerning the support of civil society in the region. The aim of the Foundation for Democratic Change is to promote human rights and minority rights within transitional societies in Central and Eastern Europe, by using the third-party consultation model of conflict resolution. The main activities of the foundation are in the fields of training, consultation and actual mediation.' Das Treffen wurde durch die Foundation for Democratic Change (Bukarest) und dem Berghof Forschungszentrum fuer konstruktive Konfliktbearbeitung veranstaltet. Die Teilnehmer erarbeiteten eine Reihe vom Empfehlungen zur Unterstuetzung der regionalen Zivilgesellschaft. Das Ziel der Foundation for Democratic Change ist es, die Menschen- und Minderheitsrechte innerhalb der Transitionsgesellschaften in Mittel- und Osteuropa mittel eines Konfliktberatungsmodells zu unterstuetzen. Die Haupttaetigkeiten der Foundation erstrecken sich auf Trainingsmassnahmen, Beratung und Mediation.' (Autorenreferat)
